K. Singh & Associates, Inc. (K. Singh) was retained by Wisconsin Department of Transportation to provide updating of 1 mile of urban 4 lane roadway to 6 lanes with left turn lanes. Additionally, 4 freeway ramps at the STH 50/I-94 interchange were reconstructed to meet current and future traffic volumes. The freeway ramps, STH 50 and side roads were constructed over 2 years with 7 significant stage changes.
Additional sub stages were added to construct 118th Avenue intersection; however several sub stages were reduced to construct the 125th Avenue and 123rdAvenue intersections. Approximately 73,000 square yards of concrete pavement, 16,000 lineal feet of storm sewer, and 182,000 tons of base aggregate/breaker run were placed to construct the roadway. Roadway reconstruction challenges included maintaining access to local businesses, a freeway interchange, and multiple intersections. Complex coordination had to be completed with traffic control, contractor’s schedule, business stakeholders, and local government agencies.
