Singh & Associates, Inc. (KSingh) was retained by Strand Associates, Inc. to provide design services for the reconstruction project on STH 11, from Kentucky Street to Kearney Avenue, in the City of Racine in Racine County.
KSingh’s portion of the project was full design and PS&E from Drexel Avenue to Kearney, the eastern project limit. Ajay Singh, PE is the lead design engineer for this urban reconstruction project. The project includes temporary and permanent traffic signal design for the intersection of STH 11 and Drexel Avenue and full design and modeling for a 2000-ft segment.
Key challenges included raised median sections, the presence of 50 driveways, and storm sewer design. Additional challenges included making key changes to satisfy public response from the public involvement meetings. The end result was KSingh adding turn lanes to accommodate more fluid movements to a nearby Church and School.
KSingh’s segment traversed six (6) intersections, one of which is signalized. The modeling for these intersections was performed in Civil 3D. Additionally, the traffic control plan included detours and maintaining one direction of traffic at all times.
KSingh is also responsible for the Pavement Marking and Signing, and Erosion Control plans for the entire corridor. The project is currently moving towards final design.
