K. Singh & Associates, Inc. (KSingh) was retained by Milwaukee County for the complete replacement design of two, single-span bridges over the Root River in the Root River Parkway located in the City of Franklin and the Village of Hales Corners. Both bridges were recognized as flat slab structures with reinforced concrete girder decks. Due to structural deficiencies, these bridges received funding from the Local Bridge Program. The bridges are located in Whitnall Park.
The scope of this project included Hydrology & Hydraulics, approach roadway design, structural design, geotechnical investigation, significant public involvement, right of way plat, and PS & E.
In addition, both of these bridges were recognized as historical and therefore required significant compliance with Section 106 and regulations for historical bridges.
The railings went through several iterations from BOS to ensure conformance with applicable standards while also meeting the historic requirements of the Section 106 process.
Nick Decent led the structural design of the project with Senior oversight provided by Suren Gupta, PE. Jeremy Hinds, PE was the project manager. The final plans were completed in November 2015.
